Jason here:
I have had a few requests for hotel suggestions, so I'll do my best to help out here....
Hotel rooms in NYC are always at a premium, and of course October is a peak time to visit. On the good side there are TONS of Hotels to choose from. :)
Over the last few years I have had very good results with Priceline.com, with myself and with friends coming into town. When choosing an area, go with "Midtown West" - that will put you within walking distance to my studio, or at worst case a cab ride for 8 bucks.
With plenty of time left between now and October, you have lots of time to bid! So do yourself a favor and "name your own price". Go with a hotel that's 3 stars or higher and you'll have a nice hotel.
The other option (and the one the REVOLUTION crew is looking at) is to stay outside the city. Specifically, Jersey City, NJ - there are 2 - three star hotels in Jersey City, NJ, and both are very nice. They have nice size rooms and it's a cinch getting to and from the city via the PATH train, which is about a 20 minute ride.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! If you feel like splurging I can highly recommend these hotels:
Any of the W hotels
All of them are about a 10 dollar cab ride away and all are in great locations.
The Maritime Hotel - This is one of the hottest in NY right now.
Hotel Gansevoort- Amazing hotel.
Four Points Sheraton is also very nice -
I'll add more, and let you know where we'll be staying!
